I never planned on writing this guide.
Honestly, it started with a conversation.
A friend of mine came to me one day and said something I wasn’t able to stop thinking about:
"Every time a girl strikes out, she looks at her parents… and how the parents react changes everything."
That hit me hard.
Because he was right.
As someone who has worked in psychiatric hospitals for years leading mental health and recreation groups, I’ve seen firsthand how deeply childhood experiences stay with us. I’ve seen how pressure, shame, criticism, silence, and emotional reactions can shape the way people see themselves long after the moment is over.
And sports? Sports magnify those moments.
The car rides.
The sighs.
The yelling from the stands.
The “helpful advice.”
The silence after a bad game.
The look on a parent’s face after a strikeout.
Kids remember those moments.
So I started writing what I thought would be a small guide for parents…
But the deeper I wrote, the more I realized this wasn’t just about softball.
It was about relationships.
It was about emotional safety.
It was about the cycles many of us unknowingly repeat because they were done to us first.
That’s why I wrote:
How to Be the Softball Parent She Needs
And Break the Cycles That Broke You
This guide is designed to help parents:
- Build confidence and resilience in their daughters
- Understand their own emotional reactions during games
- Respond to failure with support instead of pressure
- Create stronger, healthier relationships through sports
- Reflect on how their own childhood experiences may still influence how they parent today
Because one day, the games will end.
But the way your daughter felt while you watched her play will stay with her forever.
If this guide helps even one family communicate better, heal together, or create a safer emotional environment for their child… then every word was worth writing.
The book is officially available now on Amazon:
