Change the Channel!
Hello Hottest Moms! Have you ever been going somewhere and all of a sudden, you’re hit with a negative thought? You were just going about your day. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a negative thought creeps in. You were minding your own business and not looking for it, but like it or not, it’s there. You then start to dwell on the negative thought and before you know it you get mad at yourself for having the thoughts.
Please understand you aren’t in control of when negative thoughts hit, you are only in control of what you do when the negative thoughts hit. So many sights, sounds, smells, and experiences remind us of persons, places, and things from our past. Most of them are great and brings a smile to our faces. Others bring terror and makes us feel we were right back in the situation, despite it happening a long time ago.
So, what can we do about it? Start by forgiving yourself for mistakes from your past and remind yourself you’re not perfect. Shift your attention to a future goal instead of something that brings you misery. When you remain focused on a goal, you eventually get there. When you focus on the past, you stay stuck there. Which do you think is healthier?
Think of your negative thoughts like a commercial you’ve seen a million times. You know the script, you know what they’re trying to sell, and you know you don’t want anything to do with it. You change the channel with no effect on your emotions and actions. Tell the negative thought you know the script, you know the misery it’s trying to sell, and you want nothing to do with it. Change the channel! Switch your focus to something else!
This takes practice. Understand it’s not easy, but if you make yourself conscious of these things it gets a lot easier. Let’s start focusing on solutions and taking action. Don’t stay focused on the negative feelings and let the action take you. How will you change the channel today? We’d love to hear from you, so please share any questions, comments, or concerns in the comments. We’re in this together and remember, you’re confident, resilient, and beautiful!
