How to Love Yourself P.7 - Turning Survival Strategies to Self-love Strategies (Post # 10)

Happy Wednesday Hottest Moms! Thank you for joining us for our seventh installment in our ten-part series on How to Love Yourself. Today we’re going to talk about something that doesn’t get enough love—our negative patterns. Not because they should stay, but because they came from somewhere real. What does that mean?

Our negative habits or thought patterns didn’t magically appear out of nowhere—they developed to fulfill a need. Maybe they helped you cope. Maybe they protected you. But now that you're growing, healing, and taking control, it’s time to thank those patterns for getting you this far… and kiss them goodbye!

Here’s an example of what we’re talking about: Let’s say someone developed the habit of avoiding confrontation. Maybe as a child, raising your voice or speaking your truth led to punishment or rejection. So, avoidance became a survival tool. But now, as an adult, avoiding tough conversations might be blocking healthy relationships or personal progress.
You don’t need to hate that part of you—thank it for trying to keep you safe. Then begin to practice open communication, even in small doses. You’re simply meeting your need for safety and belonging in a healthier, empowered way. That’s taking control!

Some of you may ask, what’s the difference between this and the Change the Channel post. “Change the Channel” focuses on your present thoughts—the everyday self-talk and internal reactions that need more compassion. “Turning Survival Strategies to Self-Love Strategies” digs deeper. It’s about recognizing the roots of your unhelpful patterns, understanding the why, and replacing them with something new.

Every version of you was trying to survive or feel better. You are not broken—you are evolving. Be loving toward what no longer serves you, and step boldly into new, empowering ways to meet your needs. Please let us know what you think in the comments. Don’t be afraid to share this with someone who you think could benefit, it could lead to some amazing conversations. You got this! Never forget, you are confident, resilient, and beautiful!
